What is very sensitive skin?
Babies with sensitive skin are prone to all sorts of skin conditions ranging from eczema, rashes, dry skin. In some cases this is caused due to contact with skin lotions, oils and powders, fabrics, detergents etc. Reactions can range from being quite mild to being quite severe.
Tip
The first thing you need to be able to do is remove all potential irritants from your baby’s skin routine. This includes products that are used in the baby’s bath, those that are applied directly to the skin and detergents you use to wash your baby’s clothes and bed sheets in. Keep the temperature of the bath cool to warm and maintain the hydration of the skin by regularly moisturising. This can be up to five or six times a day.
Product recommendation
QV Cream is recommended to help relieve dry skin in a wide range of sensitive skin conditions such as compromised skin. Used regularly after baths and throughout the day, QV Cream will help to reduce dryness and generally protect the skin
.
Avoid using soap when bathing as this can cause further inflammation and irritation as well as too hot water or prolonged stays in baths.
Some of your answers indicate that your baby may tend towards having very sensitive skin. Sensitive skin can be aggravated by over-cleansing or using too much soap, which dries the skin out. You can help manage your baby’s dry skin by using only cool to warm water for washing and reduce the time in the bath or shower.
As using soap can dry your baby’s skin out further, choose a soap-free cleanser. QV Wash is a foaming liquid cleanser that is an alternative to soap that is ideal for daily use in the bath or shower, or at the hand basin.
QV Wash is mild enough for your baby’s face and suitable for the entire body.
